Scholarship 12 is an online and paper-based course designed to help students search for, investigate and apply for applicable post-secondary scholarships, bursaries and other forms of financial aid. In addition, students will explore and research future careers/areas of study through a variety of activities and assignments.
Course Objectives:
At the end of this course, the student will be expected to: - have completed a scholarship resume and other necessary documents for scholarship, bursary, and grant applications
- have applied for a minimum of 10 scholarships and/or bursaries (i.e.: School, Local and External awards listed on the EMCS Website, awards listed on other websites, university entrance and additional university awards, Dogwood/Provincial Government awards, work-related, athletic, church etc awards, local/provincial/national/international organizations awards, etc.)
- have researched a minimum of 3 plausible future career areas
- have researched a minimum of 3 post-secondary institutions (to which he/she could feasibly apply)
- attended at least one post-secondary information session (preferably more)
- have applied to at least one or more post-secondary institutions (for the following school year or beyond)
- know where to find and apply for financial-aid
Course Content:
This course is divided into the following sections:
- Personal reflection: What to do after graduation? Personality/career/work-life values assessments
- The scholarship resume
- Scholarships and bursaries: The research and application process
- Financial aid – The application process
- Post-Secondary application, course selection and timetabling
- Taking a year off – Is it for me? (Gap Year: research volunteer organizations, deferring university entrance, scholarships, etc.)

Methods of Evaluation:
Assessment will be based on a combination of completed assignments (some mandatory and some student-selected) kept in a paper or electronic portfolio (or combination of both). As well, a student-teacher conference will be held each term in order to assess the student’s progress.
A final grade will be determined in this course based on the BC Ministry of Education Guidelines:
A 86-100%
B 73-85%
C+ 67-72%
C 60-66%
C- 50-59%
F 0-49%
Individual assignments will be graded using the Ministry's 4-point scale:
4 = Exceeds Expectations
3 = Meets Expectations
2 = Minimally Meets Expectations
1 = Does Not Meet Expectations
